About the Territory
The U.S. Virgin Islands
The Virgin Islands sit in the northeastern Caribbean, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. Together they form three island gems — St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John — along with Water Island and dozens of smaller cays.
Much has changed since 1917, when the United States purchased the islands from Denmark. The territorial flag was adopted on May 17, 1921, one of many milestones on the road from colonial rule to elected self-government. Today more than 87,000 residents are U.S. citizens who elect their own Governor, a 15-member Legislature, and a Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives — yet still cannot vote for President and have no full voting representation in Congress.
Our Party
The Democratic Party of the U.S. Virgin Islands
We, the Democrats of the United States Virgin Islands, united in common purpose, rededicate ourselves to the principles that have historically sustained the Democratic Party. A party that wishes to lead must listen to those it would lead; a party that asks for the people's trust must prove that it trusts the people.
Several core beliefs tie our party together: that we are greater together than we are on our own, that our community succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, does their fair share, and plays by the same rules — and that our economy must lift up all Virgin Islanders, not just those at the top.
